During internship I spent most of my time working on curating spaces around the museum and setting up art shows. One of my main contributions at the museum was setting up the 25 & Under Contest. This work included gathering materials, designing the space, preparing artwork for the walls, emailing, and organizing a database. Most of the office work was needed in order to communicate with artists about their art and making sure all details were stored in two different databases (on google docs and the computer drive). As the people around us were busy we decided to take on 2 different projects to present at the end of our internship. One of the projects became receiving art work, designing the space for the artwork, and installing the 25 & Under art contest. Our second project was a more personal one where we created a scrapbook inspired by five 25 & Under contest winners and five 2018 Prospect's exhibitors.
Our first project developed after being assigned to one of the first tasks after receiving all of the artwork. From the beginning we were very much involved with the contestants, winners, and art pieces which led this project to run smoothly. Cris assigned us to design the layout in which these art pieces would be displayed. We were given a blueprint of the area and we were in charge of measuring each art piece to best accommodate them on the wall space given to us. This project was fun but I wish I would've had the opportunity to do this sooner as I would've liked to gain more experience with laying out art pieces for a show.
The second project developed shortly after the 25 & Under contest winners were picked out. The art around us gave us inspiration to create more art and having given the chance to use materials provided by the MCASD we really wanted to do something hands on and creative. For this scrapbook we chose 10 artists in total and dedicated a full page to each of them by recreating a piece of art with our own twist.
