Growth Mindset Project
The growth mindset project revolved of being in a mentality of being able to grow from a certain state of mind. For this two week long project, I decided to learn how to drive. I chose this topic because I figured that it's something I'd have to learn anyways and this was a perfect opportunity to keep track of my growth. I felt that the growth mindset project was able to confirm to me what teachers from previous years have been trying to get us to understand. By viewing other's projects and growth as well as my own, I was able to literally see growth happen in a 2 week span. One thing that I continued to refine was my art skills, I made sure to draw or doodle more often so that I wouldn't loose the hang of it. The growth mindset project allowed me to keep an open mind when I found myself in situations of struggle throughout honors math.
Successes & Struggles
One area of success this year was geometry. I felt that this was a topic we had briefly touched on in past years but I never got to ask in depth questions about the subject. I enjoyed geometry because I was able to learn more myself as well as focus on helping my peers. The King Arthur problem was one of the main focuses this year. This problem revolved around a word problem for which we had to create a formula in order to keep solving the problem using more complex numbers. Although this problem was short, there was a lot of steps to get to the answer. What I struggled with was finding the answers independently. Even though, math is all about group work I also enjoy having time to do independent work. I tried many different approaches to get to the right answer but I couldn't without the help of my peers. Even after having my friends help me, I continuously pushed myself to ask more questions and solve for those questions.
Growth & Future Plans
This year I have grown in my leadership skills by learning to first refine my own skills and then waiting until I understand each topic completely before stepping in to help someone else. Next year I plan on taking Calculus because I want to challenge myself and become more prepared for what college math may look like. In order to be successful next year I plan on creating study groups and finding a better study pattern. I would also like to check in with my teaches more often and receive tutoring help more frequently.
